Following in the Footsteps of Pink Floyd

WHAT'S IN YOUR BAG?

Even the most dedicated college stoner probably hasn’t listened to Pink Floyd albums as closely as Colin Wilson has. He can recreate every yell and guitar riff that original band leader Roger Waters played, down to the scream at the beginning of “Dark Side of the Moon.” His job depends on it.

Mr. Wilson, 53, is a member of The Australian Pink Floyd Show, a cover band that’s gained international fame for its uncanny portrayal of the original psychedelic rock band, including high-production laser light shows.

The Aussies have recreated the sound and feel of a real Pink Floyd concert to such a degree that after seeing one of their shows in London in the mid-1990s, actual Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour invited them to perform at his 50th birthday party in 1996.

It was a defining moment for the band. “It said to a lot of otherwise skeptical Pink Floyd fans that if we were good enough for him, we were good enough for them,” Mr. Wilson says.
